Lyn Rees
Group CEO (BBI Holdings Ltd)
Lyn joined the group in 1999 as Sales and Marketing Manager for BBInternational and was integral in the company’s strategic move from the life sciences and research arena into the £15 billion diagnostics market. Rising through the ranks of the commercial team, Lyn became Sales Director of the division and implemented strategies to grow BBInternational to be a market leader in reagent supply, contract manufacture and assay development. In 2006 Lyn successfully set up BBI Healthcare, an innovative and ambitious company that supplies novel diabetes care products to domestic and international markets. He returned to BBInternational as CEO in late 2007 where he was responsible for achieving significant growth in terms of revenue and staffing levels. Most recently in late 2009, Lyn was appointed Group CEO. As well as being responsible for BBInternational, he now also oversees BBI Healthcare and BBI Enzymes.
Michael Graz Ph.D.
Managing Director
Appointed Managing Director in December 2010, Michael first joined the group in 2008.
During his first two years acting as an independent consultant, Michael worked and was involved in a variety of roles and projects including heading up the group Quality function and managing the BBI Research facility. More recently and specific to BBI Enzymes, Michael was involved in the major investment program within the Cape Town facility, providing world class manufacturing capabilities.
With a Ph.D. in Anatomy and Human Biology, a second in Pharmaceutical, over 17 years consulting practice and prior experience as MD of an enzymes extraction business, Michael brings a wealth of knowledge to the business. In his role as Managing Director, Michael is focussed on growing the business through new product development, while continuously improving services to customers via quality and process improvements.
David Jones
Operations Manager – UK
David has over 30 years' experience in the isolation and purification of Enzymes and related Biochemical’s for the diagnostic market and his specialty is the extraction and purification of Alkaline Phosphatase. David is Operations Manager for BBI Enzymes UK where he has been instrumental in the successful reorganization of the company’s production strategy in terms of the efficient supply of Diagnostic Enzymes. Since joining BBI, David has significantly contributed towards the company’s achievement of increased productivity and market share.
John O’Shea
Quality Assurance Manager – UK
John has extensive experience in the enzyme manufacture business and is currently Quality Assurance /Quality Control Manager at the BBI Enzymes (UK) site in Blaenavon. He graduated from Leeds University with a combined Honours degree in Biochemistry/Physiology and following a short sojourn into teaching joined the Blaenavon team as a QC Analyst in the mid 1980s. Following a 10 year spell in the Research & Development department, involved mainly in process development work, he moved back into Quality in a managerial role. His experience in the business also makes him a key contact on technical issues.
Janeske Oosthuizen
Technical Marketing Manager - South Africa
Janeske obtained her BSc degree in Microbiology and successfully completed a Management programme at the University of Stellenbosch Business School. She then joined BBI in 2002 in the Food & Beverage department, which was then known as Seravac. Her focus shifted towards the Pharmaceutical and Diagnostic industries and she gained valuable experience within Sales & Marketing, building close relationship with BBI’s key accounts. Janeske is now responsible for new business development, using her knowledge of the company and industry, to identify new opportunities.
Ken Murray PhD
Technical Marketing Manager - UK
Ken joined BBI in 1988, when the company was operating as Biozyme Laboratories. He has worked in a variety of technical and marketing roles for the business, as well as being responsible for the sourcing of key raw materials and related regulatory compliance issues. Ken is now using his extensive knowledge of the business and the related industry to work with worldwide key accounts, mainly in the immunodiagnostic and biosensor markets, to develop new business opportunities globally.
Leigh Thomas
Head of Sales
Leigh is a Sales professional with 15 years experience in Business to Business Sales and Negotiation. He joined BBI in 2003 and has a proven track record of delivering on the rapid growth strategy of the company. He has overall responsibility for Divisional Sales and retains responsibility for some key strategic accounts. Leigh and his team are focused on delivering high quality end to end diagnostic services to our many customers.
Simone Shung-King
Regulatory Affairs Manager
With a BSc Hons from the University of Port Elizabeth, Simone started her career in 1999 as a chemical consultant. From 2000 she has been in the Quality field gaining experience and knowledge as Head of Quality at Irvin & Johnson, a company trading internationally in the Food and Beverage industry. Simone joined BBI Enzymes SA in February 2003 as Quality Assurance Manager where she was responsible for Quality, Export and Import compliance and instrumental in achieving certification for ISO 9001 for BBI Enzymes SA. In 2011 Simone was promoted to Regulatory Affairs Manager, in her new role Simone will be responsible for proactively monitoring the regulatory environment in relation to BBI’s business strategy to anticipate future developments and ensure that plans are in place to fulfil the requirements from a regulatory perspective.
Stewart Clark Ph.D.
Research & Development Manager
Stewart is a Fulbright graduate of Montana State University in the USA, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Microbiology. During his tenure in Montana, Stewart was based at the Centre for Biofilm Engineering, it was here that his passion for multidisciplinary collaborative projects grew. With a background in biological research, Dr Clark has extensive working knowledge of molecular biology as it relates to pathogen detection and microbial ecology as well as experience in industrial biotechnology and environmental engineering. He is well versed in the requirements of various international standards and has experience in implementing and auditing ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and CWA 15793 systems. Appointed Research & Development Manager at BBI Enzymes in May 2011, Stewart is focussed on advancing the capabilities of the company through new product development and R&D process improvement.
