Chymotrypsin
BBI Enzymes, is a world leading producer of Chymotrypsin and has supplied the pharmaceutical industry with this raw material for a number of years. Chymotrypsin possesses anti-inflammatory properties that enable to hasten the resorption of inflammatory oedema, as well as, of post-operative and post-traumatic haematoma and oedema. Chymotrypsin also possesses proteolytic properties that enable to destroy in-situ the fibrinous formations resulting from subacute or chronic inflammatory processes.
The Chymotrypsins, of which there are several, are proteolytic enzymes derived from Chymotrypsinogen A and B, which are present in the pancreas and pancreatic juice. Chymotrypsinogen A is activated by Trypsin and, depending upon the method of activiation, five principal Chymotrypsins may be obtained. There are referred to as α, β, γ, Δ and π Chymotrypsin.
Chymotrypsin is extracted from both bovine pancreas and pancreatic juices using mutliple precipitation, fractionation, and filtration steps. The process from extraction of the pancreas to final product takes approximately 3 weeks, with kilogram quantities of pure Chymotrypsin being produced from one tonne of pancreas.
Our procedures, which have been developed and optimised over many years and 100s of batches, ensure the highest quality, stability and batch-to-batch consistency, providing reagent manufacturers with exceptional Chymotrypsin products. The product can be tested as per the USP/EP/BP test methodology.
